Ottawa celebrated its 200th birthday on Saturday, September 26, 2026, two centuries after the founding of Bytown. The City’s official Ottawa 200 Block Party filled Marion Dewar Plaza at City Hall from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a family zone, hands-on activities and local food vendors, and OC Transpo buses and the O-Train were free all weekend. Families who want to keep the bicentennial going can cook a recipe printed in Upper Canada in 1831, five years after Bytown began. The next free weekday for it is Friday, October 2: a PA day with no school at both the OCDSB and the OCSB.

Halloween 2026 falls on Saturday, October 31, so Ottawa families get a full weekend for costumes, trick-or-treating and a party. Cooking is a hands-on Halloween activity for kids in Ottawa that fits that weekend well: children ages 4 to 15 can bake mummy cake pops or witch’s cupcakes, or shape pumpkin ravioli, and then eat what they made. Cookiddoo brings a two-hour Halloween cooking party to your home for $485 for 8 children, runs Halloween workshops for schools, daycares and community centres, and sets up kids cooking stations at company family events. Below are the calendar, three recipes, party formats with prices, and allergy notes.

For eight children in Ottawa, the two options land in different places on the bill. Published venue packages for that group size start around $199 and run past $300 before tax, with food, extra guests and loot bags added on top. A mobile cooking birthday party from Cookiddoo is $485 for 8 children, held at your place, and that price already covers the instructor, all ingredients, aprons and equipment, setup and cleanup for two hours. The venue usually wins on sticker price. The home party wins on everything the parent still has to organise after booking. Here are the published numbers, checked 22 September 2026, and the logistics behind each.

Planning a cooking workshop for your class or centre comes down to four decisions: the format, the room, the group size and the date. Cookiddoo brings the ingredients, equipment and utensils, Food Handler certified instructors, tables when a room needs them, and the full menu and program to schools and daycares across Ottawa. Your side provides kitchen access or a classroom with tables for the no-cook format, plus the students. Sessions run 45 to 90 minutes depending on age, for children 4 to 15, with up to 10 children per instructor and a maximum of 30 per session. Current per-group rates sit on the Schools & Daycares page.

A kids birthday party fits in a small Ottawa apartment or condo when you plan it around one table. Count your work surfaces first: one standard 6-foot folding or dining table holds six to eight children standing along both sides, and that number becomes your guest list. Then pick an activity that keeps everyone in one place facing that table — cooking, decorating, assembling — so the room stays calm and the neighbours stay friendly. Choose a menu that skips the oven if your kitchen is tight, start in the afternoon, and keep the music inside your walls. Cookiddoo brings the full setup to homes, condos and party rooms across Ottawa and Gatineau.
