CORPORATE & PUBLIC EVENTS IN OTTAWA

Kids Cooking Station for Company Family Days, Holiday Parties and Festivals

Planning an employee family day, a holiday party with kids, a client appreciation event or a community festival in Ottawa? Cookiddoo runs a hands-on kids cooking station with its own instructors, ingredients and equipment. Children cook in small, supervised groups while parents enjoy the event, and our team sets up and cleans up.

Who books the station

  • HR and event teams planning family days, summer picnics and holiday parties
  • Festival and market organizers who want a supervised kids activity
  • Associations, parishes and cultural organizations hosting family events
  • Venues and event planners adding a children’s program to a larger event

What we need from you

The date and time window, the address, the expected number and ages of children, and whether the venue has a kitchen, tables, power and handwashing access. We confirm staffing and the recipe, then send a quote.

Two station formats

With a kitchen on site. When the venue has an oven and a stove, the station can run pizza, pasta, cupcakes or brownies. The bake sets the rhythm of the rotation, so this format suits a steady stream of children.

Tables only. Office lobbies, tents, community halls and park pavilions usually offer tables and power. Here we run no-bake recipes, food assembly and decorating; groups move through faster, which helps when a large crowd is expected.

Venue checklist

  • Tables for the station with access to power

  • A covered or indoor area for outdoor events
  • Oven and stove only when the chosen menu needs them
  • Floor space for one group of children
  • Load-in access and a parking spot near the station

Permits for outdoor and public events

A family day inside your own building is a private event. An outdoor event on City property, or one open to the public, goes through the City of Ottawa special-event process: the application package is due 90, 60 or 30 days ahead depending on the scope, and food preparation puts it at 30 days at least. Ottawa Public Health asks food vendors at special events to apply at least two weeks ahead and to keep a trained food handler on site every hour the event runs. Our instructors hold Food Handler certification, so ask us for the station details you need for the forms (rules as of September 2026).

Planning timeline

  1. As soon as the date is set: send the date, time window, venue and expected number and ages of children for a quote.
  2. At least 30 days out for an outdoor or public event: file the City of Ottawa application, earlier with alcohol or a road closure.
  3. At least two weeks out for a public event: the food vendor application goes to Ottawa Public Health.
  4. Two weeks out: confirm the format, recipe and station layout with us.
  5. Event week: final headcount, age mix, allergies, load-in and parking.

Frequently asked questions

What does a kids cooking station at a corporate family day look like?

We set up a supervised cooking area at your venue. Children join in small groups, cook or assemble a simple recipe with an instructor, taste it and make room for the next group. We bring the ingredients, tools and aprons and clean up at the end.

How many children can take part?

We staff the station on the ratio we use for school programs: up to 10 children per instructor, with an assistant from 11 children. For a large crowd, kids cook in rotating small groups, so tell us the expected number of children and the time window.

Do you need a kitchen at the venue?

A kitchen is optional. Without one we run a tables-only format with no-bake recipes, food assembly and decorating. With an oven and stove on site we can offer menus such as pizza, pasta or cupcakes.

What ages is the station for?

Children ages 4 to 15. Recipes and tasks are adjusted to the age mix, and knife skills are only for kids 7 and older.

How is the price set?

Each event gets a quote based on the number of children, duration, venue and format. Send the details through the form and we reply with a quote.

Is the station safe for children with allergies?

Our instructors are Food Handler certified and follow nut-free protocols. Share any allergy information when you request the quote and we plan the recipe around it.

Do you also cater food for the adults?

Yes. Cookiddoo prepares lunch catering for offices and events, see corporate & event catering.

Can you run a party for one family instead?

Yes. A birthday party at your home is $385 for 8 children, $40 per extra child up to 10. See mobile kids birthday parties in Ottawa.

How long does each group stay at the station?

It depends on the recipe: a no-bake or assembly recipe releases a group sooner than a pizza waiting on an oven. We give you the rotation length when the recipe is confirmed. Sign-up sheets with time slots at the entrance keep the line predictable.

How do teenagers fit in with the younger children?

Recipes and tasks are matched to the age mix, and knife work is for children 7 and older. Teens stay engaged with a later slot of the day or the part of the recipe that carries real responsibility.

Other formats: all mobile parties & workshops, workshops for community centres and camps, school & daycare programs.
