Barrhaven kids can learn to cook with Cookiddoo in two ways: by joining the Junior Chef Academy, an 8-week Wednesday evening course for ages 8 to 13 in Kanata, or by booking a 2-hour private class or cooking party that we bring to your home in Barrhaven. The drive to the course is about 15 km; OpenStreetMap routing gives around 19 minutes from the Walter Baker Sports Centre area without traffic.

Is the Kanata course worth the drive from Barrhaven?
For a child who wants real kitchen skills, a weekly course teaches far more than a run of unrelated one-off classes. The same group of up to 10 children works with the same lead coach and assistant for eight Wednesdays, and every class builds on the one before: knife safety and vegetables, eggs and heat control, fresh pasta, pastry and custard, meat and safe temperatures, yeast dough, choux pastry, and a graduation challenge where each child plans and plates a full meal.
Two practical points for Barrhaven families: leave by about 5:00 PM on Wednesdays, since weekday traffic adds time to the free-flow estimate; and ask other families in the group about sharing the drive. The fall 2026 group runs October 21 to December 16, with no class on November 11; tuition is $680 + HST. Details and booking: Junior Chef Academy.
Bring the class to Barrhaven
A private class at home is the simplest option for younger children or a group of friends. We arrive with ingredients, tools, gloves, aprons and portable equipment, run a 2-hour hands-on class where each child cooks one dish and one drink, and leave the room clean. $485 for 8 children, $50 per extra child up to 11, $150 deposit credited to the total; the travel fee is arranged individually.
Barrhaven schools, daycares and community groups can also book a workshop at their own site, as a single session or a weekly after-school series. See schools and daycares.
