The City of Ottawa runs its kids cooking classes under the name Kitchen Adventures. On Register Ottawa, the City’s registration site, the fall 2026 sessions are at Greely, Manotick, Diane Deans Greenboro, Hunt Club-Riverside Park and Hintonburg community centres and at Earl Armstrong Arena. A session is one hour a week for six or seven weeks and costs $70.63 to $82.40 for Ottawa residents. In November and December the City adds one-hour cupcake and holiday cookie decorating workshops for $22.74, two of them in Kanata. No weekly Kitchen Adventures session is listed for Kanata or Stittsville this fall; in the west end the closest weekly kids cooking program is the Junior Chef Academy by Cookiddoo in Kanata.

We checked every listing below on Register Ottawa on October 15, 2026. The City adds, moves and cancels sessions during the season, so confirm the day and the fee on Register Ottawa before you plan around it.

How to register for City of Ottawa cooking classes

  1. Open Register Ottawa (register.ottawa.ca) and search for “Kitchen Adventures”, “cooking” or “decorating”. A search for “cooking” alone misses most kids sessions, because their titles use the word “kitchen”.
  2. Create a family account before registration night and add each child, so you only have to pick the session and pay on the night.
  3. Register when the season opens. Online registration opens at 9 PM on the City’s registration night for each season; for summer 2026, activities opened on May 14 at 9 PM. Winter dates are announced on ottawa.ca.
  4. Check the age rule. Listings use whole years: “at least 8 but less than 13” means ages 8 to 12 on the first day.
  5. Ask about allergies. The listings do not publish the menu, so call the community centre if your child has a food allergy.

The City program is the low-cost way to find out whether your child likes cooking, and it is close to home in Greely, Manotick, Riverside Park and Greenboro. A 2-hour class leaves time to cook a full dish from raw ingredients and clean the station, which is why our classes and the course run two hours. For families in Kanata, Stittsville and Nepean, the course is the weekly option close to home this fall. The course plan and open spots are on the Junior Chef Academy page.

Other low-cost and community options

Community associations that partner with the City run their own programs and their own registration. The Old Ottawa South Community Association and the Manor Park Community Council have listed kids cooking classes in recent seasons; check their program pages each season. Community houses and youth centres listed on 211 Ontario run food programs for children and teens from time to time.

For the full picture by age, from first classes to adult and career programs, see cooking classes in Ottawa. If your child wants to keep cooking after a City session, our guide to cooking lessons for kids in Ottawa explains which format teaches the most.
