Halloween 2026 falls on Saturday, October 31, so Ottawa families get a full weekend for costumes, trick-or-treating and a party. Cooking is a hands-on Halloween activity for kids in Ottawa that fits that weekend well: children ages 4 to 15 can bake mummy cake pops or witch’s cupcakes, or shape pumpkin ravioli, and then eat what they made. Cookiddoo brings a two-hour Halloween cooking party to your home for $485 for 8 children, runs Halloween workshops for schools, daycares and community centres, and sets up kids cooking stations at company family events. Below are the calendar, three recipes, party formats with prices, and allergy notes.

Halloween 2026 falls on a Saturday: how to plan the weekend

October 31, 2026 is a Saturday. A daytime cooking party and evening trick-or-treating fit into the same day, and the weekend of October 24–25 is the other natural party date. Ottawa-area farms and attractions run Halloween programs through October; Ottawa Tourism’s fall round-up (September 24, 2026) notes that most of them need reservations or tickets in advance.

Three Halloween recipes kids can make

These three recipes come from Cookiddoo’s seasonal master classes. Each class takes about two hours. At home, kids do the mixing, shaping and decorating, and an adult runs the oven and the stove.

Mummy cake pops (ages 4–15)

Kids bake a sponge cake from scratch, crumble it and mix it with homemade cream, shape two large mummies on wooden sticks, dip them in white chocolate glaze and wrap them in chocolate strips for the bandage effect. Eyes, sprinkles and a festive bag with a ribbon finish the job. The full class is described on the mummy cake pops master class page.

Witch’s cupcakes (from age 4)

Children mix a cocoa batter from flour, eggs and milk, fill the molds, whip a frosting in purple, mint and black, and build edible witch hats from chocolate and waffle cones. Each child boxes four finished cupcakes. See the witch’s cupcakes baking class.

Pumpkin ravioli with cream sauce (from age 4)

The savoury option for a family dinner: pasta dough from flour and eggs, a pumpkin filling with cheese and spices, ravioli shaped and sealed by hand, and a cream sauce with butter, garlic and herbs. Details are on the pumpkin ravioli class page.

If the oven is busy, pick an assembly or decorating menu: pre-baked cupcakes to frost, fruit skewers, or a themed drink in a blender. For a mobile party, our team picks a no-cook menu when the home has no kitchen or oven available.

Halloween birthday party: at home from $485 or at the studio for $385

A Halloween cooking birthday is a two-hour party where every child cooks one dish and one themed drink from scratch, then the group eats together. The format on both party pages is the same: 15 minutes of welcome and setup, 60 minutes of hands-on cooking, 45 minutes of tasting and celebration.

Sweet menus with a natural Halloween twist include the cupcake party, chocolate brownies and, at the studio, cake pops; for savoury, pizza and mini burgers take a spooky decoration well. Tell us it is a Halloween party when you book, and we help choose the menu, the drink and the theme. Each child cooks in a Cookiddoo apron and chef hat and gets the recipe afterwards. Compare both options on the mobile kids cooking parties page and the studio birthday party page. Halloween workshops for schools, daycares and community centres

A Halloween cooking workshop is a one-time themed session that Cookiddoo runs in your classroom, daycare room, community centre or day camp. The week of October 26–30 is the last school week before Halloween, so send your preferred date early.

  • Group size: up to 10 children per instructor, an assistant from 11 children, up to 30 children per session.
  • Length by age: about 45 minutes for the youngest, 60–75 minutes for ages 5–9, about 75 minutes for ages 9–12, 75–90 minutes for ages 12–15.
  • Space: kitchen access for cooking menus, or a room with tables for the no-cook format: no-bake recipes, food assembly, decoration and nutrition education.
  • We bring: all ingredients, equipment and utensils, aprons, and tables if needed; Food Handler certified instructors; nut-free protocols.
  • Price: depends on group size and format; we send a proposal.

Read the school and daycare workshop planning guide, then request a proposal on schools and daycares or community centres and camps.

Corporate family Halloween

A kids cooking station keeps children busy at a company Halloween or fall family event while the adults talk. Children join in small groups of up to 10 per instructor, cook or assemble a simple recipe and taste it at the station. We work with a kitchen on site or with tables only, arrive early for setup and leave the space clean. The price is by quote; see the corporate family day cooking station and our guide to corporate family day activities in Ottawa.

Allergy and safety notes for Halloween cooking

Halloween cooking with a group goes safely when allergies are collected in writing before the day and every label is read. The cupcake and ravioli recipes above use eggs, milk and wheat flour, three of the priority allergens, and the cake pops start from a sponge cake and white chocolate.

  • Health Canada lists 11 priority food allergens: eggs, milk, mustard, peanuts, crustaceans and molluscs, fish, sesame seeds, soy, sulphites, tree nuts, and wheat and triticale. Canadian labels must name them by their common names.
  • Wash hands with warm soapy water for at least 20 seconds before and after handling food (Health Canada).
  • Keep the fridge at 4°C or lower, and leave raw meat, poultry, fish or leftovers on the counter for no longer than two hours.
  • Cut raw meat on its own board, away from anything eaten raw: this matters for Halloween burgers.
  • Costumes and kitchens: tie back capes, roll up wide sleeves and take masks off at the counter.
  • In our classes, knife skills start at age 7. At home, keep an adult beside the child at the knife, the oven and the stove.

For a Cookiddoo party, tell us about every guest’s allergies when you book: we plan the menu around them wherever possible and confirm the details before the party. Our workshops for schools, community centres and company events follow nut-free protocols.
