Kids bake savoiardi (ladyfinger) sponge from scratch, caramelize fresh apples, line a mold and assemble a real French apple charlotte, then simmer warm spiced apple cider. Every child leaves this Ottawa kids cooking class with their own dessert and a bottle of cider.
Young pastry chefs learn to whisk eggs and fold in flour to pipe savoiardi, caramelize apples in homemade caramel, and layer sponge and fruit into a charlotte using classic French pastry method — real hands-on baking, not just decorating.
The charlotte and cider use fresh apples, eggs, wheat flour, butter, sugar, citrus and warming spices, so the class contains wheat, eggs, milk and citrus. Tell us about allergies when you book and we can adapt the recipe.
No. This class at Cookiddoo in Kanata, Ottawa is built for ages 4–15: a chef breaks every step down, so even first-time little bakers can whisk, caramelize and assemble a charlotte with confidence.
Our baby apple cider is a warm, non-alcoholic apple drink. Children simmer whole fresh apples with cinnamon and spices, then strain it into a fragrant cider they taste in class and take home.
Each young chef takes home their finished apple charlotte, a bottle of homemade apple cider, the printed recipes, a certificate and new French-pastry skills.
