In this hands-on kids cooking class in Kanata, your child builds a full lunch box from scratch: two kinds of creamy chickpea hummus (with homemade tahini), a batch of crispy baked cheese crackers, and fresh-cut vegetables — no store-bought mixes.
Children grind cooked chickpeas and blend two variations of creamy hummus, including making tahini from scratch by grinding sesame. They learn how texture, lemon and seasoning change the taste of each dip.
Kids knead a simple dough of flour, oil and cheese, roll it out, cut the crackers and bake them until crisp. It is an easy, fully guided first baking project — well suited to ages 4–14.
They practice safe grinding and blending, kneading and rolling dough, kid-safe knife work to wash and chop vegetables, and how to plate and pack a balanced homemade lunch.
The recipes use chickpeas, wheat flour, cheese (dairy) and sesame (tahini), plus fresh vegetables and lemon. Please tell us about any allergies when booking so we can adapt the recipe.
